Who are we?
Adamson Jones
Founded in 2000, Adamson Jones was established as a commercially-focused IP practice to assist UK businesses ranging in size from technology-focused start-ups to established SMEs and multinational corporations.
From its roots in the East Midlands, the firm developed a strong reputation for securing robust patent, trade mark and design protection, and providing pragmatic advice, across a broad range of technologies.
Adamson Jones was the first IP practice to join Gateley in January 2022, complementing Gateley’s existing IP, legal, and commercialisation capabilities. The team continues to specialise in the identification, drafting, prosecution and management of patents, trade marks and designs across a wide range of sectors, including advanced manufacturing, medical technology, software and AI, electronics and pharmaceuticals.
Groom Wilkes & Wright
Groom Wilkes & Wright (GWW) was established in 2004 as a specialist intellectual property practice dedicated to trade mark and design law, created to provide focused, high-quality advice to brand-owning businesses.
From the outset, the firm built a strong reputation for advising consumer-facing brands, where trade marks, packaging and design rights are critical to brand value and market differentiation.
GWW continues to work with some of the world’s leading brand-owning organisations, supporting them throughout the life of their trade mark and design portfolios. Clients span all sectors including food and drink, fashion, beauty, healthcare, lifestyle and leisure, financial, energy, education, automotive, recruitment and computing and information technology.
With clients operating across multiple territories and an office presence beyond the UK, GWW is highly experienced in global trade mark strategy and coordination, working with overseas agents and handling international portfolios.
In 2025, Groom Wilkes & Wright joined Gateley, and in 2026 became part of Gateley IP, increasing the trade mark and design capability of the team.
Symbiosis IP
Symbiosis IP was founded in 2008 to provide highly-specialised patent attorney support to the life sciences and chemical sectors, with a focus on providing services to universities, spinouts and early stage businesses navigating complex innovation journeys.
Built around deep scientific expertise, the firm quickly established a reputation for working closely with clients to develop, protect and commercialise innovations in biotechnology, chemistry, pharmaceuticals and medical technologies. This model combines rigorous patent protection with a strong understanding of how IP underpins funding, growth and commercial success, making Symbiosis a trusted partner to academic institutions, emerging ventures and established commercial organisations.
In October 2022, Symbiosis IP joined Gateley as part of the group’s strategic investment in building a market leading, sector-focused IP offering. Symbiosis IP continues to specialise in life sciences and chemistry, with offices in Sheffield, York, and Cardiff as well as access to Gateley’s wider UK office network.
